Checkers is a Yellow-crowned Amazon Parrot with a big personality! He arrived to Merazonia in 2012 after being confiscated from a nearby townhouse. Like many parrots kept as pets - Checkers’ wings had been cut, to prevent him from flying away. Checkers is now a permanent resident of Merazonia where he lives a semi-free life on a series of outdoor walkways, providing him with a taste of the freedom he so very much deserves. He can often be heard screaming “Holaaaa” to joyfully get the attention of passing-by volunteers.
